Si King has paid a heartfelt tribute to his late Hairy Bikers co-star Dave Myers, who died aged 66 after a battle with cancer. King said he will 'miss him every day' and described their bond as 'over half a lifetime'. In a statement, he wrote: 'I wish you god's speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.'
The pair met in the 1990s on the set of the Catherine Cookson drama The Gambling Man, where King was a second assistant director and Myers headed the prosthetics, hair and make-up department. They bonded instantly over a shared love of pub lunches and pints, and soon discovered a mutual passion for food, drink and motorcycles, leading to their iconic Hairy Bikers persona.
Myers was diagnosed with an unspecified cancer in 2022 and underwent chemotherapy. Throughout his treatment, King was an indispensable support, driving him to hospital and batch-cooking comfort food such as mince and dumplings. Myers recalled: 'There was a freezer full and that was great.' King was with Myers when he died.
The duo went on to present the Hairy Bikers' Cookbook on BBC Two from 2004, followed by numerous series and over 30 cookbooks. Their final show together, The Hairy Bikers Go West, aired on BBC Two last year. King said it was 'particularly special' because of Myers's determination. They always stood in the same order on camera, with Myers on King's left, a habit they maintained even off screen.
