Piers Morgan mocks US $20m reward for Iran nuclear intel

The US Department of State has advertised a reward of up to $20 million for information on Iran's nuclear programme, drawing a blunt response from broadcaster Piers Morgan.

The Rewards for Justice programme is offering the sum for details about the programme, including its facilities, equipment and associated personnel. The department is also seeking information about the scientific community, with possible relocation offered as part of the reward.

IAEA report cited in reward statement

"In 2025, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that Iran is enriching uranium to 60 percent purity, a level that is a short technical step from the 90 percent required for a nuclear weapon," the statement read.

"Iran is the only non-nuclear-weapon state to produce uranium at such a high enrichment level. Experts estimate this quantity, if enriched further, could be enough for several nuclear weapons."

The life-changing amount of money has been advertised to civilians.

War context and online backlash

Iran's nuclear weapon capabilities have long been a focal point of the US, and President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed it as the reason for his country's war on the Middle Eastern nation.

The US and Israel carried out joint strikes on several key Iranian sites at the end of February. Iran retaliated by closing the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of all global oil passed prior to the war. Global oil markets were shocked, flights across the region were disrupted and thousands of people have lost their lives.

The US Central Command shared the reward in a post on social media platform X. Its post was met with intense backlash, with Morgan commenting a simple message: "WTF????"

One X user shared Morgan's sentiment: "Hahah they don't even know the location of Iran's nuclear program. This is so embarrassing." Another X user commented: "So you have started a war to "dismantle" a nuclear program you know nothing about?? Because it doesn't exist."

While a third said: "Looks like Iran did a good job ridding itself of your agents. Now you're resorting to begging online." Another commented: "I thought they destroyed it like 4 times already lol".
