Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to visit Norway on Friday to observe a NATO exercise before travelling to the United Kingdom, his office announced on Monday.
Carney will observe the Norwegian-led NATO Cold Response exercise, a biennial event involving around 25,000 troops from 14 nations training in Arctic conditions for land, air and sea operations. Participating countries include Canada, the United States, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Sweden and Finland.
“Canada is, and forever will be, an Arctic nation. In the face of new threats, we are deepening defence collaboration with our Arctic partners to create a stronger, more prosperous, and more secure world for Canada and for all,” Carney said in a statement.
While in Oslo, Carney is expected to meet Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre to discuss trade, investment, clean energy, critical minerals and the aerospace sector. He will also attend the Canada-Nordic Summit to enhance geopolitical co-operation with Nordic leaders.
Before returning to Canada, Carney will stop in London to meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for talks on defence and the war in the Middle East.
