Married At First Sight Australia groom Steve Powell has revealed he is directly related to former England footballer Sir David Beckham. The 50-year-old creative director, who appears on the 2026 series of the show, confirmed the connection during a recent interview, insisting it is 'a fact'.
Powell explained that his grandmother was a Beckham, making the footballer his second cousin. The pair were born just eight days apart and share the same middle name, after their fathers. Powell was born in Essex, close to where Beckham grew up.
The MAFS contestant said he once met Beckham when he was about 16 years old in London, when Beckham was already a professional footballer. 'It’s quite a famous connection, I guess. It’s a very cool one to have,' Powell told the Daily Mail.
While Beckham went on to achieve global fame and fortune, Powell has worked in the creative industry and signed up for the reality TV marriage experiment in Australia, where he married mum-of-one Rebecca. Joking about the family dynamic, Powell said Beckham 'got the looks and the money' out of all the cousins.
