North Korean leader Kim Jong Un watched with apparent delight as special forces troops performed extreme feats of strength during a military parade, including breaking bricks with their heads and being struck in the stomach with spades and axes.
Footage broadcast by state-run Korean Central Television on Sunday showed soldiers also performing somersaults and demonstrating other physical abilities. The channel stated that the parade 'fully displayed their crack-shot marksmanship and military technical and physical ability in a competitive way'.
Kim observed the display from behind a large wooden desk, smiling broadly at the performances. The event comes after his recent pledge to boost military capabilities and continue nuclear development under a new five-year plan.
