Rio and Kate Ferdinand have left their £6.5 million Dubai home for their luxury villa in Portugal's Algarve region, following Iran's drone and missile attacks on the UAE. The former footballer, 47, posted a selfie on social media from their property near Quinta do Lago, showing him bare-chested and sipping beer, with a caption referencing football results.
The couple, who moved to Dubai last year, have been staying at their Algarve villa, where Rio runs summer football camps. They are accompanied by their children Cree, five, and Shae, two, as well as Rio's daughter Tia, 13. Rio's older sons Lorenz, 19, and Tate, 17, remain in the UK.
Kate, 34, had previously expressed homesickness for the UK, saying she missed her older stepsons. Earlier this month, she spoke positively about living in Dubai during Ramadan. However, the family fled after the recent escalation in conflict, with Rio describing seeking refuge in a bomb shelter.
On his podcast, Rio said: 'It's frightening when you hear missiles, planes and fighter jets... It's telling your kids what it is and helping them navigate through this moment.' He added that his studio had become a bunker and that they slept in the basement. Kate thanked authorities for keeping them safe.
Tensions in the Middle East remain high, with reports that the Trump administration is considering deploying an Army paratrooper division to the region.
