Kanye West, now known as Ye, could face immediate arrest if he performs a song or makes any apology for Nazism during his upcoming concert in São Paulo, Brazil, on November 29. The State Public Prosecutor's Office in São Paulo (MPSP) has instructed riot police to be on standby and arrest the rapper if he violates Brazil's laws against Nazi propaganda.
The order also extends to show promoters Guilherme Cavalcante and Jean Fabrício Ramos, known as Faublous Fabz, in an effort to prevent West from performing his song 'Heil Hitler', which he released in May. The concert was originally scheduled at the Interlagos racetrack but was cancelled last month, and São Paulo's mayor, Ricardo Nunes, has stated that the city will not provide a public space for the event. As of now, no venue has been confirmed, raising doubts about whether the show will proceed.
West has a history of anti-Semitic comments, including a 2023 documentary where he claimed Jewish people were working together to hold him back, and a 2022 statement telling Jewish people to 'forgive Hitler'. He also sold a T-shirt with a swastika earlier this year, leading to Shopify shutting down his Yeezy website. Recently, he met with Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto in New York to 'take accountability' for the hurt caused by his comments, attributing them to his bipolar disorder.
The rapper has faced widespread backlash from figures such as Jamie Lee Curtis, Piers Morgan, and Jack Antonoff. Despite his apologies, the MPSP's warning indicates that any defence of Nazism during his performance will result in immediate arrest.
