Jorginho Backtracks on Chappell Roan Security Allegations
In a surprising turn of events, former Premier League footballer Jorginho has publicly retracted his accusations against singer Chappell Roan, stating he "regrets the impact" of a "misunderstanding" that sparked a major controversy. The midfielder initially claimed on social media in March that Roan's security guard acted aggressively towards his wife, Catherine Harding, and his 11-year-old stepdaughter, Ada Law, leaving the child in tears.
Details of the Initial Incident and Backlash
Jorginho alleged that the guard confronted Catherine at a hotel breakfast, suggesting she should not allow her daughter to "disrespect" or "harass" others. This statement triggered widespread backlash against Chappell Roan, leading to her being banned from a music festival in Rio de Janeiro. However, Roan denied any involvement, asserting that the security guard, Pascal Duvier, was not employed by her—a fact Duvier later confirmed.
New Information Leads to Apology
In a recent Instagram post, Jorginho clarified that new information had altered his perspective. He explained, "Chappell Roan made a public statement, reached out privately to Catherine, and our teams also spoke directly. It became clear that she had no knowledge of what took place at breakfast and had not asked anyone to approach them." He added that Roan was "understanding and sympathetic" to the situation.
Jorginho emphasised that the guard was not working for Roan, calling it a "misunderstanding" and expressing relief at setting the record straight. He stated, "I regret the impact this situation has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine, Ada and our family. I will always stand up for my family, but I also know how to recognise when things were not quite what they seemed at first."
Background on the Families Involved
Jorginho's stepdaughter, Ada, is the child of his wife Catherine and her ex-partner, actor Jude Law. The footballer married singer Catherine in Lake Como, Italy, last year, and they share a son together. Jorginho also has two children from a previous marriage to Natalia Leteri.
Statements from Chappell Roan and the Bodyguard
In her own response, Chappell Roan previously stated she had no knowledge of the incident and did not instruct the guard. She said, "They did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything. It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions when they have no reason to believe, because there’s no action even taken."
Bodyguard Pascal Duvier also addressed the allegations, noting, "I do not normally address online rumors, but the accusations currently circulating are false and constitute defamation. I take full responsibility for the interactions on March 21st." He clarified that he was at the hotel for another individual and not part of Roan's team, adding that his actions were based on security risks and that the outcome was regretful.
This resolution highlights the complexities of celebrity interactions and the rapid spread of misinformation in the digital age, with both parties now seeking to move past the controversy.
