Jack Osbourne Reveals Heartbreaking Final Conversation With Father Ozzy Before Death
Jack Osbourne's Heartbreaking Final Talk With Ozzy Before Death

Jack Osbourne has opened up about the emotional moment he realised his legendary father Ozzy Osbourne was "done" in the weeks preceding the metal icon's death last year. The rock star passed away at age 76 on July 22, 2025, merely seventeen days after performing a farewell concert with Black Sabbath in Birmingham, England.

The Final Conversation

During a Thursday appearance on the HATE TO BREAK IT TO YA podcast, Jack, now 40, reflected on his father's final weeks. He recounted a particularly poignant conversation that occurred the night after Black Sabbath's farewell show, as he prepared to return to Los Angeles.

"Right before I left, I was putting him to bed and he was brushing his teeth," Jack recalled. "He was looking at himself in the mirror and he goes, 'I think I'm going to cut my hair off.'" When Jack asked why, Ozzy responded with devastating clarity: "I've retired. I'm not a rock star anymore."

A Symbolic Gesture

Jack noted that his father had only cut his hair short once before, and had shaved his head "once to p*** my mom off" during the 1980s. This unusual desire to change his iconic appearance struck Jack as profoundly significant.

"I think about that and I'm like, 'Yeah, he was done. He was okay with his journey,'" Jack explained on the podcast, revealing how this moment crystallised his understanding of his father's acceptance.

The Final Performance

Despite this resignation, Jack described how Ozzy remained "fired up" and "gearing up" for what would become his final Back to the Beginning concert in Birmingham. The entire Osbourne family had travelled from Los Angeles to England for this historic performance.

"We weren't expecting it to be as quick as it was," Jack admitted. "I just think he was done." The musician passed away just seventeen days after this farewell show, mirroring the timeline of his close friend Lemmy Kilmister, the Motörhead frontman who died seventeen days after his own final performance in December 2015.

Family Time and Final Weeks

Jack shared tender memories from the family's last weeks together in England. He had flown his children from Los Angeles to spend precious time with their grandfather around the period when Ozzy was preparing for and performing his final concert.

Ozzy Osbourne died from complications related to a long battle with a form of Parkinson's disease, according to official statements. A death certificate filed in London and obtained by The New York Times indicated he suffered a heart attack and had coronary artery disease.

Posthumous Honors and Legacy

The rock legend's passing has been followed by numerous tributes to his decades-spanning career. Most recently, at the BRIT Awards in late February, Ozzy was posthumously honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

His wife Sharon Osbourne and daughter Kelly accepted the award with a heartfelt speech. Sharon described her late husband as "the most humble egomaniac you could ever meet" and expressed her wish that he could have accepted the honor himself.

"If Ozzy was here tonight with us, he would be showing us that gorgeous smile that he had," Sharon told the audience. "I know he would be so proud to receive this from the country that he loved."

She emphasized that while Ozzy may be gone, "he left us one amazing body of work that will never be forgotten by the country that made him." The family's public tributes continue to celebrate the enduring legacy of one of rock music's most iconic figures.
