Gogglebox Original Stars: Where Are They Now?
Channel 4's beloved reality series Gogglebox has captivated audiences since its debut in 2013, offering a unique glimpse into the lives of families and friends as they react to weekly television shows from their sofas. While the Siddiqui family remains the sole original group still on the programme, many other fan-favourite cast members have departed over the years. This article explores the poignant and surprising paths of these original stars, from tragic losses to new business ventures.
Leon and June Bernicoff: A Love Story Cut Short
Leon and June Bernicoff were cherished for their heartwarming interactions and Leon's affectionate comments towards his wife during their time on Gogglebox. Their journey took a sad turn when Leon passed away in December 2017 at the age of 83. June left the show shortly after but remained a dedicated viewer, keeping in touch with the production team. She moved closer to her family and, before her own death in 2020 at 82, authored a book titled Leon And June: Our Story, chronicling their 60-year romance that began at a teacher training college in 1955.
Steph and Dom Parker: From Financial Woes to Gin Business
Steph and Dom Parker, known for their witty banter, left Gogglebox in 2016 after seven series to focus on their hotel and other projects. They stayed in the public eye with appearances on shows like Celebrity Hunted and Celebrity Masterchef, and even starred in their own documentary about cannabis. Despite hosting a radio show and writing a book, the couple faced significant financial difficulties, accumulating debts of £1.8 million. They sold their Kent mansion and relocated to the Canary Islands, though recent social media suggests a return to the UK. Now, they have launched their own gin business as a new venture.
The Tapper Family: Political Aspirations and Weight Loss Journeys
The Tapper family, including parents Nikki and Jonathan and children Amy and Josh, exited Gogglebox in 2018 after a five-year run. Josh pursued a Government Communications Apprenticeship and later became the Labour candidate for Hertsmere in 2024, though he was defeated by nearly 8,000 votes. He has since married his long-term partner. Amy, meanwhile, has remained in the spotlight, appearing on Celebs Go Dating in 2018 and documenting her weight loss journey of over 7.5 stone on Instagram. Their mother Nikki works as a Nursery Manager.
The Michael Family: A Legacy of Laughter and Loss
The Michael family, consisting of Andrew, Carolyne, and their children Alex and Louis, were among the longest-standing Gogglebox participants, joining in 2013 and leaving in 2021. They took a brief hiatus in 2014 when Andrew ran as a UKIP candidate. Tragically, Andrew died in 2021 at age 61 after a short illness. Since leaving the show, the family has maintained a low profile, with Louis inactive on social media since 2019. Alex has showcased her creativity by making and selling fleeces online.
Sandi and Sandra: From TV Duo to YouTube Creators
Friends Sandi and Sandra were fan favourites for their hilarious commentary on Gogglebox. Sandi left in 2016 to pursue other opportunities, including appearances on Celebrity Big Brother and Famous & Fighting Crime. Sandra continued on the show with her daughter Chanchez until 2017. Recently, they reunited to launch a YouTube channel called Sandi and Sandra Show. Sandra now works as a cleaner at a funeral parlour, having previously opened up about financial challenges.
Chris Ashby-Steed and Stephen Webb: A Complicated On-Screen Partnership
Chris and Stephen started on Gogglebox as a couple but continued as friends after their relationship ended, despite reported tensions behind the scenes. Chris departed in 2018 to explore other TV opportunities. Stephen remained, initially with his mother Pat, who left after three series and sadly died in 2024 after a long illness. Stephen was then joined by his husband Daniel Lustig-Webb in 2019, but they left the show three years ago and have since announced their separation. Stephen appeared on Celebs Go Dating in 2024 and had to withdraw from Dancing on Ice due to an injury. The pair continue to work together at their salon, Lustig and Webb, in Brighton.
Gogglebox continues to air on Channel 4 every Friday at 9pm, bringing new families and fresh perspectives to screens across the nation.
