Federal agents seized iPhones, USB drives, and other electronic devices during a surprise raid on the home of Donald Trump’s former national security adviser John Bolton last month, according to newly released court documents.
The inventory list, made public on Thursday, includes two iPhones, a Dell laptop, a Dell desktop computer, a hard drive, two USB drives, and several folders containing typed documents labelled 'Trump I-IV'. A white binder titled 'Statements and Reflections to Allied Strikes…' was also taken.
The search warrant was based on 'evidence of a crime' and 'property designed for use … in committing a crime', the documents state. The government argued that Bolton was unaware of the investigation and might destroy evidence if alerted.
Federal agents were authorised to seize any classified documents related to Bolton’s role as assistant to the president for National Security Affairs, as well as devices used to store or transmit classified material. The raid in Bethesda, Maryland, is part of a probe into the handling of classified documents, a source told the Associated Press.
FBI Director Kash Patel posted on X: 'NO ONE is above the law… FBI agents on mission.' Deputy Director Dan Bongino added: 'Public corruption will not be tolerated.' Bolton served as Trump’s third national security adviser before his dismissal in 2019 and has been a vocal critic of the former president.
