The European Commission is set to lead discussions on the next round of support for Ukraine, holding talks with the US, France, Germany, Britain, Nato and the World Bank. The talks will focus on helping Kyiv through the winter and on supporting the US-led peace process ahead of upcoming negotiations in Abu Dhabi.
Winter Support and Peace Process on the Agenda
The discussions come as Brussels quietly takes the lead on Ukraine support, with most attention still on the US. The talks are expected to address what can be done to assist Ukraine during the winter months and how to back the peace process, with negotiations planned in Abu Dhabi.
Steve Witkoff, Trump's special envoy, said US negotiators would meet with their European partners in Brussels.
Overnight Attacks on Ukraine
The talks follow another night of heavy attacks on Ukraine, with strikes hitting power stations in Kyiv and Zhytomyr and a cargo vessel at sea near Odesa. A residential area in Kyiv experienced power outages amid the Russian strikes.
European reactions to the US midterms may also emerge, although many politicians may choose to stay silent to avoid risking Donald Trump's wrath.
