Welsh actor Dino Fetscher, best known for his role as ecologist Gareth in Sky's new thriller Under Salt Marsh, has had a remarkable career trajectory from winning Mr Gay UK in 2008 to earning an Olivier Award nomination in 2022. Born in Cardiff in 1988 to a German mother and Welsh-Basque father, Fetscher came out as gay as a teenager and has been open about his sexuality.
In Under Salt Marsh, Fetscher portrays Gareth, an environmental expert assessing flood risks in the fictional Welsh town of Morfa Halen. His character's history with Detective Eric Bull, played by Rafe Spall, complicates a murder investigation. The six-part crime drama also stars Kelly Reilly and Jonathan Pryce.
Fetscher's breakout came in 2015 with Russell T Davies' comedies Cucumber and Banana, followed by roles in Years and Years, Paranoid, Humans, and Gentleman Jack. He recently appeared in Netflix's Fool Me Once and Apple TV+'s Foundation. On stage, he received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for The Normal Heart.
Off-screen, Fetscher keeps his personal life private but is believed to be dating vet Chris Wilson. The couple, who moved in together in 2021, share their home with a rescue cat named Pumpkin. Fetscher also supports the Celia Hammond Animal Trust.
