Chris Robshaw, the former England rugby captain, reportedly came close to withdrawing from the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing after he and his wife were allegedly targeted by a female stalker. The woman is said to have made threats of violence and spread false allegations, prompting Robshaw to involve the police.
According to friends, Robshaw met the woman twice at work events last year, with abuse beginning six months later. The suspect is reportedly listed on the National Police Wanted List and has left the country. A spokesperson for Robshaw stated: 'This is an ongoing police investigation, and therefore we are unable to comment at this time. Chris will not be commenting further.'
Insiders claim the BBC is aware of the situation and has provided support. 'Chris almost turned down Strictly because of what this woman has been putting him and his family through,' a friend told The Sun. 'She’s made some disgusting threats. It has been awful for them.' The friend added that the woman has allegedly targeted others in the past.
Robshaw, 39, retired from rugby in 2022 and was announced as a Strictly contestant on Wednesday. He decided to proceed with the show largely due to his young son, Wildian. A source said: 'Chris hates a fuss... he’s grateful to how amazing the BBC have been... He wants to crack on with the competition.'
Robshaw's wife, Camilla, has also faced threats. The couple are said to have been advised by police that they are not alone in being targeted. The BBC has worked with Robshaw to ensure his safety during the competition.
