Amanda Holden has shared her verdict on the rumoured hosts for the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing, expressing strong support for Emma Willis. The Heart Radio presenter, 55, believes the 50-year-old television personality will excel in the role.
Amanda Holden Praises Emma Willis
Speaking on her radio show, Holden said: "I love her, she’s going to smash that. I’ve always thought there could be a dancer, like a roving reporter, so then they know what they’re talking about, that would be fantastic." Her comments come after reports emerged that Emma Willis is in line to present the hit BBC show, replacing Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who announced their departure at the end of the last series.
Rumoured Co-Hosts: Johannes Radebe and Josh Widdicombe
It is understood that Strictly professional dancer Johannes Radebe could join Willis on the presenting team. Additionally, comedian Josh Widdicombe, 43, has been tipped for a role after reportedly "blowing producers away" during rehearsals. Holden commented on Widdicombe's potential fit, saying: "He’s kind of quite droll and dry like Claudia, he’s got the same sort of humour I would say, and he’ll wear the same type of outfits as Claudia. She loves a suit, a cool suit with a turned up collar. I could see Josh in that." However, her co-host Jamie Theakston admitted he "didn’t get" why Widdicombe was being considered.
Other Contenders: Zoe Ball, Fleur East, and Mel Giedroyc
Several other stars have commented on missing out on the coveted role. Zoe Ball, 55, revealed she worked through "seven stages of grief" after failing to land the job despite being "in the mix." Speaking on her Dig It podcast, she said: "I didn’t get it, but it’s okay. I have worked through the seven stages of grief and rejection over the last couple of days. I was so chuffed to even be in the mix."
Fleur East, a former contestant and It Takes Two host, admitted she was "kind of bothered" after missing out. Speaking on Hits Radio, she said: "I did say initially, after Tess and Claudia announced they were leaving, you know, it’s probably not going to happen [for me] and I’m happy for whoever gets it. But I’m kind of bothered..."
Fans have also speculated that Mel Giedroyc could be an alternative third host. The comedian has previously presented the Strictly tour, as well as segments of Children in Need and the Eurovision Song Contest. There appears to be a gap in her schedule, fuelling speculation.
The BBC has yet to confirm the presenter line-up, stating it will be announced "in due course."
