Nick Stapleton, the son of iconic Watchdog presenters John Stapleton and Lynn Faulds Wood, is set to follow in his parents' footsteps by joining the renowned consumer rights programme. The couple fronted the show from 1986 to 1993, and now their son has landed a role on the programme, which has been part of The One Show since 2020.
Family Legacy Continues
Nick Stapleton expressed his excitement, stating, "Uncovering scams and fighting for consumer fairness is in my blood." He will collaborate with documentary maker Amber Haque, alongside existing hosts Matt Allwright and Nikki Fox. Reflecting on his upbringing, Nick added, "I grew up watching my mum doorstepping people and holding them to account, and it lit a fire in me."
He noted the poignancy of joining the programme after the passing of both parents. John Stapleton died last year at age 79 from pneumonia after battling Parkinson's disease, while Lynn Faulds Wood passed away from a stroke in 2020 at age 72. Nick remarked, "My parents aren't around any more, so there is a real poignancy in joining Watchdog, a programme that was such a huge part of our lives. I truly believe in public service broadcasting and it's a privilege to join Matt, Nikki and Amber to continue that legacy."
New Team Members
Amber Haque, known for her work on BBC Three documentaries and hit podcasts, also joins the team. She said, "I grew up watching The One Show and Watchdog, and so much of my work now looks at how digital culture and modern systems are affecting people’s lives. What makes Watchdog so special is how it holds power to account while staying human and accessible, so it’s a really exciting moment to be joining the team."
Matt Allwright welcomed the new additions, saying, "In Amber and Nick we've got two of the most talented investigative journalists around. I'm delighted that they're going to be part of the team and I know they will take Watchdog from strength to strength."
Upcoming Reports
Nick's first report airs tonight on The One Show, exposing scam adverts on social media that lure consumers into fraudulent investments. Watchdog, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025, remains one of the UK's most respected consumer journalism brands.
Joanne Vaughan-Jones, Editor of The One Show, commented, "Watchdog remains one of the BBC's most trusted brands. At a time when consumer issues are evolving rapidly, its role has never been more vital - and with Matt, Nikki, Nick and Amber, we have a brilliant team ready to deliver real impact."
