This ruthless offensive, conducted in defiance of prior assurances to the United States, plunged thousands of Ukrainian civilians into freezing darkness as sub-zero temperatures gripped the region.

The timing of the attack is particularly cynical, coming just one day before scheduled US-brokered peace talks in Abu Dhabi. The salvos, comprising 450 drones and 70 ballistic and cruise missiles, struck at the heart of Ukraine's civilian infrastructure. In Kyiv alone, 1,170 apartment buildings were deliberately denied heating, with even a kindergarten reported among the targets hit in the capital.

Hundreds of thousands of families, including children, were deliberately left without heat during the most severe winter frosts, when temperatures drop to -25°C." The assault smashed power grids and wounded at least ten people, creating what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described as calculated terror.

President Zelensky stormed: "Taking advantage of the coldest days of winter to terrorise people is more important to Russia than diplomacy."
