Israeli Prime Minister Declares Iran's Nuclear Strike Capability Eliminated
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a significant update on the ongoing war with Iran, now entering its third week. Netanyahu claimed that Iran no longer possesses the capacity to enrich uranium for the production of nuclear weapons or to manufacture ballistic missiles capable of delivering devastating strikes.
"We are winning," Netanyahu declared this week, stating that Iran has been "decimated" by Israeli military actions. He boasted about the degradation of Iran's missile and drone arsenal, specifically highlighting the destruction of facilities critical to nuclear weapons development.
Destruction of Critical Infrastructure
"What we're destroying now are the factories that produce the components to make these missiles and to make the nuclear weapons that they're trying to produce," Netanyahu explained. However, the Israeli leader provided no concrete evidence to substantiate these claims about Iran's diminished capabilities.
The announcement comes amid reports that former US President Donald Trump is considering plans to occupy or blockade Iran's Kharg Island, a strategic location in the Persian Gulf. Netanyahu hinted at potential ground operations, stating "There are many possibilities for this ground component," though he offered no specific details about such plans.
Denial of US Involvement Allegations
Netanyahu later addressed accusations that he had drawn the United States into the conflict with Iran. "Does anyone really think that someone can tell President Trump what to do?" he questioned, suggesting the US operates independently in its strategic decisions regarding the Middle Eastern conflict.
Iran Responds with Global Threats and Defiance
Iran has responded to Netanyahu's claims with defiance and renewed threats against international targets. General Abolfazl Shekarchi, Iran's top military spokesman, warned on Friday that "parks, recreational areas and tourist destinations" worldwide would not be safe for Tehran's enemies.
This statement has raised concerns that Iran may revert to using militant attacks beyond the Middle East as a pressure tactic, potentially targeting civilian locations globally. The threat represents an escalation in rhetoric as the conflict continues.
Supreme Leader's Defiant New Year Message
Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei issued another defiant statement on Friday, coinciding with the Persian New Year celebration of Nowruz. In a written statement read on Iranian television, Khamenei praised Iranians for their steadfastness in the face of war.
Khamenei asserted that US and Israeli attacks were based on "an illusion that killing Iran's top leaders could cause the overthrow of the government." He commended Iranians for "building a nationwide defensive front" and delivering what he described as "a bewildering blow that the enemy fell into contradictions and irrational statements."
The Supreme Leader has not appeared in public since assuming his position following the assassination of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in Israeli strikes at the war's outset. US and Israeli officials suspect the younger Khamenei sustained injuries during these attacks, though this remains unconfirmed.
Iran continues to insist it maintains missile production capabilities despite Netanyahu's claims to the contrary. The conflicting narratives from both nations highlight the ongoing information war accompanying the military conflict, now approaching its third week with no clear resolution in sight.
