King Charles Launches UK Space Debris Tracking Project in Bermuda

King Charles III has officially launched the UK Space Agency's Project Nova during his visit to Bermuda, an initiative to install a global network of telescopes aimed at tracking space debris. The project will oversee the installation of telescopes across five sites worldwide to monitor old satellites, rocket stages, and other objects orbiting Earth.

Visit to Observatory and Coast Guard Station

On his final day in Bermuda, Charles visited the site of a new UKSA observatory on the island to learn about the project. He also officially opened the new Great Bay Coast Guard Station, where he was briefed on the Royal Bermuda Regiment's Coast Guard's role in protecting the island's territorial waters and preserving its marine environment. The King observed two new pieces of cutting-edge technology deployed by the regiment: unmanned underwater vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Engagement with Junior Leaders and Medal Presentation

Young people participating in the Junior Leader programme shared their experiences with the King. Before departing, Charles presented operational service medals to five regiment members in recognition of their dedication to protecting the island.

Garden Party Remarks

On Friday evening, the King attended a garden party at Government House, where he remarked: "I am told to my amazement it is also the first time in Bermuda's four-hundred-year history that the islands have received a reigning King. I am terribly sorry it has taken so long!" He noted that the venue still smelled of fresh paint due to recent refurbishments. Lifting a glass in honour of Bermuda, he declared: "I need hardly say that Bermuda, like all the Overseas Territories, is a most cherished and important member of the British family – with a friendship as solid as this so-called 'Rock'."
