France will deploy military forces to reinforce police during Saturday's protests, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed in parliament.
Sentinelle Force to Support Police
Speaking at the National Assembly, Nuñez said the Sentinelle force would be deployed "obviously as a substitute to interior security forces... mostly to free police and gendarmes in their mission to maintain order."
The interior minister added that the response to any unrest would be "firm."
Government's Stance on Order
Earlier, Prime Minister Lecornu stated that the police presence over the weekend would be "massive," as the government seeks an immediate return to order following last weekend's riots.
