Wirral Council has announced the full list of Remembrance Sunday services and road closures for the borough on November 8. Residents are urged to check the planned closures in advance, allow extra time, and find alternative routes to avoid delays.
Services across Wirral
Services will take place at multiple locations, including Bebington, Bidston, Birkenhead, Bromborough, Eastham, Heswall, Moreton, Port Sunlight, Prenton, Thornton Hough, Upton Village, Wallasey, and West Kirby. Times vary, with some starting as early as 9:30am and others in the afternoon.
In Birkenhead, the Civic Service begins at 10.55am at The Cenotaph in Hamilton Square, followed by a two-minute silence at 11am and a Service of Remembrance led by Reverend Paul Bentley. The Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Mary Jordan, will lead the Civic Service.
Road closures and diversions
Road closures will be in place from 9.00am until 5.00pm to ensure the services run safely. Affected areas include Bebington, Birkenhead, Eastham Village, Heswall, Moreton, Port Sunlight, Prenton, Thornton Hough, Upton, Wallasey, and West Kirby, with alternative routes provided for drivers.
Efforts will be made to remove the closures as soon as safely possible after the events finish to minimise disruption.
Mayor's message
Cllr Jordan said: "Remembrance Sunday is a chance for us to come together as a community to remember the men and women who served, sacrificed and, in so many cases, gave their lives for others." She encouraged everyone to pause at 11am to remember those who served and the many that never came home.
