A 73-year-old pensioner has declared war on his local council by refusing to pay council tax in a dramatic protest against what he describes as 'car-wrecking' speed humps that have plagued his neighbourhood.
'They're Destroying Our Cars!'
John, a retired engineer who has lived on the same street for over three decades, claims the aggressive traffic calming measures installed months ago have caused thousands of pounds in damage to residents' vehicles while creating constant noise and vibration that shakes nearby homes.
'I've had enough of being ignored,' the pensioner told reporters. 'These humps are so severe they're literally shaking our houses apart and damaging suspension systems. My neighbour spent £400 on repairs last month alone.'
The Council's Response
Despite numerous complaints from residents, the local authority has failed to take action or even conduct a proper review of the controversial road features. The council maintains the humps meet 'safety standards' and are necessary for pedestrian protection.
