Merthyr Tydfil council has confirmed road closures for Remembrance services across the county, including in Aberfan, Dowlais, Treharris, Cefn Coed, Bedlinog, Trelewis and the Town ward.
The service of remembrance in Aberfan took place on Sunday, November 1 with road closures in place.
Services on Friday and Sunday morning
On Friday, November 6 at 10.45am there will be a service of remembrance at Thomastown Park at the Boer War Memorial. At the same time, there will be a service of remembrance at Kayser Bondor, Mayphil Industries in Dowlais with a road closure.
On Sunday, November 8, at 9.30am there will be a service of remembrance at Treharris with a road closure and a church service at St Mathias with a parade from the church to the war memorial at 10.30am.
Road closures and diversions
Between 10.15am and 11.15am the B4254 Cardiff Road from its junction with The Park to its junction with Fox Street will be closed, as will the section of The Park from its junction with Oaklands Terrace to its junction with B4254 Cardiff Road. The entire length of John Street, Edward Street and Perrott Street will be closed at this time.
On the same day at 11am there will be services of remembrance at Cefn Coed (with a road closure), Pant (with a road closure and the parade to set off for the church service at 9.40am) and at Troedyrhiw War Memorial. The A4054 High Street in Cefn Coed will close between its junctions with the road leading to Maesgwynne and the western side of its junction with Station Road between 10.50am and 11.15am. Pant Road between its junctions with Pant Estate and the road leading to The Hawthorns will close between 9.30am and 10.20am.
Afternoon services and town centre closures
At 11.45am on the same day there will be a service of remembrance in Bedlinog with a road closure and a parade from the community centre at 11.30am. Bedlinog High Street will close between its junctions with Garth Terrace and Muriel Terrace from 11.15am to 12.15pm. At 12.30pm there will be a service of remembrance in Trelewis with a road closure and a parade from Bontnewydd at 12.20pm. Between 12.15pm and 12.45pm Trelewis High Street will be closed between its junctions with Field Street and Glynbargoed Road.
At 2.30pm there will be a service of remembrance in the Town ward with a road closure and a church service at St David’s Parish Church. Between 2.15pm and 4.30pm the following roads in the town centre will be closed: the entire length of Castle Yard; the entire length of Post Office Lane including its cul-de-sac end at the rear of numbers 50 – 54 Glebeland Street; Castle Street (between High Street and Glebeland Street); Glebeland Street, Wheatsheaf Lane, Victoria Street; Glebeland Place; High Street/Pontmorlais High Street (between Market Square northwards to Pontmorlais West); Church Street (between High Street and Tramroad Side North); and the lane alongside number 74 Pontmorlais High Street between Pontmorlais High Street and Tramroad Side North.
A northbound diversion whilst Church Street and Pontmorlais High Street are closed is available via the A4054 past Merthyr Tydfil College, A4054 north along Avenue De Clichy, Bethesda Street and Pontmorlais West. The council has asked anyone wishing to attend these services to arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled times.
