Dicksons Closes North Shields Branch After 36 Years, New Shop to Open

After 36 years of service, Dicksons has closed its Bedford Way branch in North Shields. The shop, which had been a fixture in the community since the early 1950s, shut its doors for the final time on Friday, with manager Tracy having worked there for 23 years.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the company thanked customers for their support, stating: 'You've been the heart of Dicksons from day one. This may be the end of an era, but it's not goodbye.' The closure comes just days before a new Dicksons is set to open on North Shields high street.

Mike Dickson, whose grandfather founded the business in 1953 in South Shields, explained that the new shop represents a redesign to be 'more contemporary and current.' The chain, which now has 32 sites across the North East, produces all its products in Tyne Dock.

Dicksons, known for its saveloy dip, pies, and sandwiches, has repositioned itself as a 'breakfast, lunch and tea' destination, offering barista coffee, fresh salads, and jacket potatoes. The closure follows the recent shutdown of its Newcastle city centre branch, which is set to become a Blue Lagoon fish and chips outlet.
