England Flag Ban at World Cup Sparks Row as MP Demands FIFA Rule Change
England Flag Ban at World Cup: MP Demands FIFA Rule Change

A group of England supporters were denied entry to Dallas Stadium with a St George's Cross flag featuring Barrow AFC's crest, which includes a submarine. FIFA's blanket ban on weapons-themed flags prohibited the display, deeming the submarine a military vessel.

MP Takes Action in Parliament

Barrow and Furness MP Michelle Scrogham has tabled a motion in the House of Commons, co-signed by Labour MPs Paul Foster and Cat Smith, urging FIFA to reconsider the ban. She stated: "Barrow AFC's crest is a proud symbol of our town's identity, history, and achievements. The submarine is not a political statement, it reflects the generations of skilled workers who have built a world-class industry here in Barrow-in-Furness."

FIFA's Blanket Ruling

FIFA's regulation prohibits flags featuring weapons at World Cup venues. John Little, a Barrow supporter, was unable to display the flag during England's opener against Croatia on June 16. The club temporarily blurred the submarine on its crest to allow Little to show support, posting on X: "In order to make sure our supporter John Little can represent the Bluebirds over in Boston properly, we'd like to unveil our new *temporary club badge for the duration of the World Cup."
