A woman who was pronounced dead for eight minutes has shared a detailed account of what she experienced on the other side, asserting that death is merely an illusion. Brianna Lafferty, 33, says her soul "floated" above her physical body before transitioning into a realm where time did not exist.
The Near-Death Experience
Ms Lafferty had been battling a rare, life-limiting neurological disorder known as myoclonus dystonia, which causes sudden, brief muscle jerks and contractions. After exhausting all available medications and suffering from severe insomnia that left her unable to sleep for more than a minute over four days, she believed her time was near. She was officially pronounced dead for eight minutes.
During that period, she heard a voice asking if she was ready, and she agreed. She then entered complete darkness, where she learned that death is an illusion and that our time on Earth is not the end. "Death is an illusion because our soul never dies," Ms Lafferty explained. "Our consciousness remains alive. And our very being only transforms."
Insights from the Afterlife
Ms Lafferty described how her thoughts instantly manifested in the afterlife, noting that thoughts create a reality there, though it takes time. "We are able to change our negativity into positivity, turning this into reality," she said. She now feels empowered and trusts life's events, especially the difficult ones. Looking back, she sees clearly why she suffered from illness and other struggles.
"There is knowledge that everything really does happen for a reason," she added. "I go with the flow and do not get angry or upset when bad things happen. Knowing that my thoughts and feelings are that powerful helps me live a gratitude-filled life."
The Out-of-Body Experience
Ms Lafferty recounted being suddenly separated from her physical body. She did not see or remember her human self but felt completely alive, aware, and more herself than ever before. There was no pain, only a deep sense of peace and clarity. "This detachment from my physical form made me realise how temporary and fragile our human experience is," she noted.
She sensed a higher presence or intelligence that guides and watches over us with unconditional love. In that realm, everything happens at once, as if time does not exist, yet there is perfect order. She experienced the beginning of everything and learned that the universe is made up of numbers. She also encountered other beings that felt familiar, though she is unsure if they were human.
Life After the Experience
Returning to her body felt like being gone for months, though only minutes had passed. She spent four days in hospital, readjusting physically and spiritually. She had to relearn how to walk and talk and suffered lasting side effects, including damage to her pituitary gland, which required experimental brain surgery that has so far been successful.
Now, Ms Lafferty no longer fears death and is grateful for the experience. "What I feared no longer had power over me, and what I used to chase did not seem important anymore," she said. "I came back with a sense of mission and deep reverence for both life and death."
She acknowledges some fear of another near-death experience due to the difficult recovery but believes she survived because she has a purpose on Earth. She now helps others dealing with chronic illness, dying, and spiritual awakenings. "We choose hard, difficult, and painful moments in our human experiences because our soul wants to know what is not available in the spiritual realm," she concluded. "It is to learn and grow, but sometimes it is because the sense of something new excites us."
