Woman Cries After Neurologist Laughs at Baby Name

A pregnant woman has been left heartbroken after her neurologist laughed when she shared the name she had chosen for her baby girl. The expectant mother was attending an appointment for lidocaine nerve block injections to manage severe migraines during her pregnancy.

She said she was already feeling overwhelmed because her insurance would not cover the treatment, leaving her with a $300 bill for previous injections and another $300 for the latest one. Additionally, she had stopped working due to the pain. Despite the cost, she felt she had no choice but to proceed, hoping for relief. She also revealed she has lupus and narcolepsy, which made her pregnancy more challenging.

The Doctor's Reaction

During the procedure, which she described as extremely painful, the neurologist asked what she planned to name her baby. She shared the name, explaining that while uncommon, it was chosen in honor of her grandmother. Instead of acknowledging it, the doctor laughed and repeated the name back in a questioning tone.

She said: “I said yes and explained why, as it was in honour of my grandmother.” The reaction left her devastated. She spent the rest of the procedure with her face buried in a pillow, quietly crying. “I cried and cried due to the pain of the injections, the pain I have endured this pregnancy, the cost for a few days of pain relief, and embarrassment that she laughed at my daughter's name,” she said.

Other Parents' Experiences

The woman is not alone in facing criticism over a baby name. Another user shared: “I wish I hadn’t told anyone cause my brother and mom spent almost my whole pregnancy telling me how much they hated the name and trying to convince me to change it. I didn’t and now it’s just a lingering awkwardness for me knowing they hate his name.”

One more user said: “My sister is choosing not to tell us what she wants to name her child because of this. She is not in the space to have to explain anything to anyone. When baby is here and it's done she's just going to reveal it when it's already registered.”
