Gardener's three-step guide to a 'perfect' lawn this summer

As summer approaches, many gardeners face the challenge of keeping their lawns lush and green despite rising temperatures and scarce rainfall. A gardening enthusiast known as Ish has shared a simple three-step method to achieve a 'perfect' lawn, as reported by the Mirror.

The first step involves preparing the lawn by applying a lawn tonic or iron sulphate diluted with water. This treatment, left to absorb for several days, turns moss to 'crisp', making it easier to remove. After this, scarifying the lawn with a mechanical tool or a garden fork helps remove thatch and improve airflow, water penetration, and nutrient uptake.

Once the lawn is scarified, the second step is over-seeding, particularly in bald patches left by weeds and moss. Ish recommends using special lawn seed for shady areas if needed. The lawn should then be left to grow for four to six weeks, kept fairly hydrated.

The final step is introducing a good feed every couple of months. Ish suggests that if feeling lazy, one can apply feed in the rain to avoid watering it in. B&Q advises watering thoroughly after feeding and notes that the best time for aeration is one or two days after rainfall, avoiding extremely heavy downpours.

Following these steps, Ish assures that gardeners can enjoy a verdant lawn 'all summer long'. The method is designed to revive tired, patchy lawns by introducing air, seed, and nutrients into the soil.
