Reece May, a guest on Good Morning Britain, has shared his remarkable weight loss journey, from a kebab addiction to training five times a week. He appeared on the show on Wednesday, August 5, with hosts Charlotte Hawkins and Richard Madeley, revealing how he shed 15 stone in two years through exercise, weight-loss jabs, and a complete diet overhaul.
From 15,000 calories to a new life
At his heaviest, Reece weighed almost 36 stone and feared he was eating himself to death, as Charlotte Hawkins noted. He consumed around 15,000 calories daily, nearly six times the recommended amount, with a diet that included two kebabs for breakfast, a pizza for lunch, three mixed grills for dinner, and snacks of crisps and chocolates. After breakfast, he would be hungry within half an hour to an hour, and would wake up at night to snack on biscuits or chocolate.
Reece explained that his eating habits stemmed from years of bullying, the grief of losing both parents, and a food addiction, leaving him feeling trapped in a cycle. He said, “I used to feel really bad. It was that bad. It sent me to a dark, depressive state, and to be honest, I’m glad I got out of it.”
The turning point
A pivotal moment came when he walked into a gym and a staff member told him, “You’re not long for this world.” Reece broke down, then spoke to a personal trainer about changing his life. Since then, he has trained five days a week and taken weight-loss jabs, which he said took effect after a few weeks, leaving his appetite “completely gone.” He recalled, “One time, I went three or four days without eating because I forgot to eat.”
Reece only used the jabs for two months, feeling he could continue on his own. He believes the jabs helped reprogramme his brain to avoid junk food. Now, he says, “I’m never hungry, I’ve sometimes got to force myself to eat, I’ve got a meal plan that I’m sticking to vigorously, I’m training five times a week.” He added, “I don’t intend on breaking it because I don’t want to go back to eating all that food.”
A new outlook
Reece’s transformation has left him speechless, saying, “I can’t put it into words.” He expressed his happiness, stating, “For the first time in my entire life, I’m happy, I really am. I’ve got a girlfriend sitting out there, I’ve got a life, got my own house, got a career, got my business.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
