The natural rubber mat, which costs around $90, has become a staple for those seeking a 'buy it for life' product. The user, initially sceptical about the price, now describes himself as an 'evangelist' for the mat, citing its grip, cushioning, and longevity.
The mat's natural rubber construction offers superior grip, even when wet, according to an independent test by German non-profit Stiftung Warentest. This grip is crucial for poses like wide-stance warrior or deep twists, where slipping could cause injury. The material is also a renewable resource, sourced from rubber tree sap, and is more eco-friendly than synthetic alternatives, according to a 2017 study.
Dean Jerrehian, president of Jade Industries Inc, explains that the company chose natural rubber for its durability and sustainability. The mat features a fiber-reinforced polycotton scrim to prevent stretching. After ten years of daily practice, the user confirms the mat's resilience, noting he would have worn through a dozen foam mats in the same period.
