A content creator has shared a traditional hair growth remedy passed down from her Slavic great-grandmother, claiming the plant-based treatment can help hair reach waist length.
Melody, a content creator, revealed that her grandmother introduced her to a stinging nettle treatment. She shared photos of her great-grandmother at 60 and her 80-year-old grandmother, both with waist-length hair, to support her claim.
How the nettle treatment works
"If your grandma never taught you how to achieve rapid hair growth, let me tell you my Slavic grandma's secret," Melody said. "This plant blocks the enzyme that causes hair loss, detoxes your scalp, and strengthens hair follicles," she explained, noting her go-to product is natural nettle shampoo.
After using the remedy for five months, Melody said she no longer needs conditioner, as her hair has more natural volume without it. Her recommended routine includes pre-washing with argan oil, washing with silicone-free natural nettle shampoo, skipping heavy conditioners or using a diluted apple cider vinegar rinse, and drinking nettle tea daily.
What science says about nettles
According to dermatological resource Clinikally, stinging nettle is packed with vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds that support scalp health and combat dandruff. Nettle root extract contains compounds thought to inhibit dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the primary hormone responsible for male and female pattern hair loss.
Nettle also contains bioactive compounds that inhibit pro-inflammatory pathways, calming micro-inflammation on the scalp. When consumed as tea, nettles deliver minerals like silica, which supports collagen production and hair shaft strength, along with iron and zinc for growth and repair.
