A cat sanctuary on the Greek island of Syros is offering volunteers the chance to live rent-free in exchange for caring for its feline residents. The opportunity, run by the animal welfare organisation Syros Cats, is open to animal lovers aged 25 and over.
Volunteers are expected to commit to at least one month, working around five hours a day, five days a week. Duties include feeding, cleaning and spending time with the more than 60 rescue cats, many of whom have been rescued from difficult situations.
In return, the sanctuary covers accommodation, breakfast and utility bills, allowing successful applicants to experience island life without worrying about rent. However, there is a small application fee charged by the organisation.
The sanctuary particularly welcomes people with veterinary assistant training or experience working with feral cats, although anyone with a genuine love of animals is encouraged to apply. Applicants must be reliable, independent and willing to get their hands dirty.
