Dr Hilary Jones Recommends Yoghurt for Longevity

TV doctor Dr Hilary Jones appeared on ITV's Loose Women to discuss how to live longer, emphasising the importance of a balanced diet. He recommended eating everything in moderation as the key to longevity.

Medical consultant Dr Sarah Brewer and dietitian Juliette Kellow suggest consuming one small pot of yoghurt daily, equivalent to three to four tablespoons. Yoghurt is packed with probiotics, protein, calcium, and phosphorus, and studies show it can help counter age-related health issues like high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and weight gain.

Research indicates that yoghurt may protect against type 2 diabetes. In a large study, adults who ate 500g of yoghurt per week were 28% less likely to develop the disease over 11 years. Another study from the late 1990s found that adding low-fat dairy to a fruit-and-vegetable-rich diet lowered blood pressure more effectively than fruits and vegetables alone.

Dr Brewer and Ms Kellow also recommend eating half an avocado three to four times a week for its healthy fats and vitamins, and bananas for their mood-boosting and blood pressure-regulating properties.
