Stacey Jones from Irvine has lost five stone with Slimming World after a health scare prompted a complete rethink of her long-term wellbeing. The 2024 member now says she is healthier, fitter and more confident than ever before.
Turning point after operation
Stacey joined the Saturday morning Slimming World group in Irvine in July 2024 following an operation and complications that made her realise she needed to make lasting changes. Years of crash dieting and restrictive eating plans had left her struggling to maintain a healthy relationship with food.
“I’d tried many diets over the years, and nothing ever felt sustainable,” Stacey explained. “After my operation and some complications, I realised I needed to make changes that I could stick to for life.”
Support and planning key to success
Determined to improve her health and fitness and be there for family and friends, Stacey joined Slimming World and found a different approach to weight loss. The group support was immediate, and she learned to optimise meals with healthy, filling foods instead of feeling restricted.
Since joining, Stacey has lost five stone, with careful planning at the heart of her success. “The biggest changes I’ve made are planning ahead and preparing weekly meals. I now have a much healthier relationship with food and staying to group each week has really helped keep me motivated and focused.”
New goals beyond the scales
The weight loss has given Stacey the confidence to pursue new goals. She has started a Slimming World walking group, regularly attends fitness classes, and is working towards qualifications in sports, fitness and wellbeing. She is also preparing to teach women’s fitness classes locally.
“I’m so much healthier and fitter now,” Stacey said. “I’m doing things I’ve always wanted to do. The journey has given me confidence as well as improved health.”
Her lifestyle now includes meals packed with vegetables, fruit and lean meats, plus at least two litres of water daily. Favourite meals include homemade Slimming World soups and pasta dishes.
Encouraging others to take the first step
Stacey is keen to encourage anyone considering joining Slimming World to give it a go. “I’d tell anyone who’s nervous to just come along and give it a go. Everyone is so welcoming and staying for the group support makes such a difference. You meet people who understand exactly what you’re going through, and our Saturday group has become like a little family.”
She also paid tribute to current consultant Lynsey, former consultant Ainsley and fellow group members for their encouragement. “I couldn’t have done it without their support. They’ve been there every step of the way.”
Now five stone lighter, Stacey says the biggest achievement isn’t just the weight loss but gaining a healthier, happier and more confident future. Lynsey’s group meets at Vineburgh Community Centre on Saturday mornings at 8am or 9.30am, and she can be contacted on 07443 484 758.
