BBC presenter Nick Knowles has announced he will be stepping back from television to care for his wife, Katie Dadzie, following a serious medical emergency. The 63-year-old DIY SOS host, who also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2024, said he needs to 'disappear' for a while to support his wife through her recovery.
Katie, 36, was rushed to hospital after her cervix ruptured following a hysterectomy. The incident occurred just weeks after the couple married at Braxted Park Estate in Essex in June 2025. She had undergone the hysterectomy last summer due to years of pain from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis and adenomyosis.
Twelve weeks into her recovery, the stitches in her cervix ruptured, causing severe abdominal pain and other complications. Katie described the ordeal as 'the most terrifying day I've ever had,' adding that she experienced difficulty breathing, blood loss, and even her bowel moving out of place. She required emergency surgery, with doctors preparing for three possible procedures, two of which were major.
Although the immediate crisis was resolved, Katie now faces another significant operation. Nick told the Daily Mail: 'I've been looking after my wife a lot because she has been through it. She's had a lot of tough times. She's got another operation coming up.' He added: 'I will disappear for a while because I'll be looking after her. I'm always worried, but she's a warrior and a fighter, so I know she'll be fine.'
Katie, a lingerie businesswoman, revealed that the hysterectomy brought on early menopause, leaving her exhausted. She had been working the day after her surgery, which she admitted 'clearly didn't help.' Following the rupture, she was rushed to hospital and had surgery within ten hours, with doctors concerned about a possible bowel perforation.
