A 51-year-old man from Texas had a cyst the size of a softball removed from his shoulder on the latest episode of TLC's Dr Pimple Popper. Marty, who has had the growth for over 30 years, described the lump as 'soft in the middle and hard around the outside' and compared the pain to sunburn.
During the procedure, Dr Sandra Lee used a spoon to scoop out the contents, which she likened to 'crème brûlée'. The patient was so nervous that he took a cigarette break in the middle of the surgery.
Marty explained that the cyst had burst once before, releasing a substance that looked like cottage cheese. He had seen doctors three times previously, but each time they only removed a small portion, leading to the cyst returning within a week.
Just days before his appointment with Dr Lee, the cyst burst again, creating a hole the size of a half-dollar coin in his shoulder. Dr Lee diagnosed it as an epidermoid cyst, a non-cancerous lump caused by a buildup of the protein keratin.
