Katherine Ryan's 'Serious' Cosmetic Surgery 8 Weeks After Fourth Child
Katherine Ryan's surgery 8 weeks after giving birth

Comedian and television personality Katherine Ryan has made a candid revelation about undergoing significant cosmetic surgery on her face a mere eight weeks after welcoming her fourth child. The 42-year-old shared the intimate details on her podcast, Telling Everybody Everything, explaining the decision led her to temporarily halt breastfeeding her newborn daughter.

A Swift Return to Surgery After Childbirth

Katherine Ryan gave birth to her daughter, Holland, with husband Bobby Kootstra, just two months before electing for the procedure. The star, who is also mother to Fred, four, Fenna, three, and 16-year-old Violet from a previous relationship, stated the timing meant she had to pause breastfeeding her infant. She was, however, pragmatic about the logistics, planning to pump milk in advance for the child's care during her recovery.

Remarkably, Ryan chose to bring her eight-week-old baby with her to York for the surgery, undertaking a three-hour car journey from her north London home. She defended this decision by drawing a parallel to the immense physical demands routinely placed on new mothers. "Women are expected to do so much," she argued, pointing out that procedures like C-sections are major surgeries after which women are immediately tasked with infant care.

Choosing a Surgeon Who 'Gets' Her Aesthetic

Ryan was effusive in her praise for the surgeon based in York, describing him as an "incredible... genius." She emphasised that his ethnic background—British and Irish—aligned with her own desired outcome. "I want to look like her," she said, referring to the surgeon's Irish wife, explaining she sought a natural look that suited her existing delicate features rather than a trend-driven transformation.

"I have really delicate features - I have a long face, I have a really narrow jawline," she elaborated. "I was not ever meant to have the Kylie Jenner heart-shaped jawline... What each of us needs to do, I think, is stick as closely as possible to what mother nature intended." Her choice was solidified after seeing the successful results on a friend and reviewing his before-and-after portfolio.

A Long-Standing Philosophy on Cosmetic Procedures

This recent surgery is not Ryan's first foray into cosmetic enhancement. She traced her philosophy back to her early twenties when, while working at Hooters, she decided on a breast augmentation. The decision came after seeing a colleague's natural-looking results, contrasting them with what she perceived as the overly artificial "Playboy Mansion style" popular at the time.

Ryan has been openly discussing a potential facelift in recent months. While she did not specify the exact procedure performed last Friday—as it was filmed for an upcoming documentary series—she assured listeners it was "pretty serious surgery." Despite the scale, she reported experiencing "zero pain" from the operation and found the overall process better than anticipated.

True to her transparent persona, Ryan confirmed she would never hide such procedures. "Being honest is not for everyone... But for me, I mean, can you imagine me doing something and not telling you?" she said, addressing past speculation about her appearance. She hopes the documentary footage will be released soon, offering an even fuller picture of her cosmetic journey.
