Comedian and television star Katherine Ryan has openly discussed undergoing significant cosmetic surgery a mere two months after giving birth to her daughter.
A Swift Return to the Operating Theatre
The 42-year-old Mock The Week panellist welcomed her fourth child, Holland Juliette, in October 2025. In a candid revelation on her podcast, 'Telling Everybody Everything', Ryan shared that she has since had what she described as "pretty serious surgery". The Canadian-born comedian has always been transparent about her cosmetic procedures, having previously spoken about breast augmentation and facial treatments like Botox.
While she kept the exact nature of her latest operation under wraps, hinting at a future 'mini docuseries' on the topic, Ryan was effusive in her praise for her new surgeon based in York. She emphasised the importance of finding a medical professional who understood her aesthetic goals, specifically noting he was "my ethnicity".
Seeking a Surgeon Who 'Gets' Her Look
Ryan elaborated on her past experiences, citing a visit to famed Beverly Hills practitioner Dr. Simon Ourian around a decade ago. She felt the result made her look "a little more Kim Kardashian", a style she realised was not for her. "We need to stick as closely as possible to what mother nature intended," Ryan stated, explaining her desire to enhance her own delicate features rather than adopt a different look.
"I have a long face, a really narrow jawline," she said. "I was not ever meant to have the Kylie Jenner heart-shaped jawline and these big Persian eyes." Her choice of a surgeon with a British and Irish background, whose wife she admired, was a deliberate move to find someone who aligned with her vision.
Family Support and Post-Surgery Plans
The procedure itself lasted three and a half hours. Ryan was not alone for the major operation; she was accompanied by her husband, Bobby Kootstra, and their two-month-old baby, Holland. Her decision to bring the infant was driven by breastfeeding. "I’m still breastfeeding her, obviously," Ryan explained, detailing how she managed feeding around the surgery with the help of a maternity nurse.
The comedian also stressed the value of personal recommendations in choosing a surgeon, having been impressed by the work done on a friend. "It really matters, I think, to know someone real and to be able to see how their face moves, talk to them," she said, calling this her historical "push to get surgery".
Now in recovery, Katherine Ryan teased a future reveal once she has fully healed, leaving fans curious about the results of her latest cosmetic journey.
