Jenny McCarthy, 53, has displayed a noticeably slimmer figure in a recent holiday photo with her husband Donnie Wahlberg, but the weight loss was unintentional. The actress and television personality revealed that her trim appearance is the result of nine mouth surgeries over the past year.
McCarthy told People magazine that the health ordeal began with a failed ceramic dental implant, leading to a deep bone infection. 'My teeth were falling out, implants falling out. They finally had to dig into my jawbone and chipped away and found I had a deep bone infection. I've been on antibiotics for a year and have had to eat soft foods only,' she explained.
The surgeries forced McCarthy to consume only soft foods due to pain and recovery, resulting in significant weight loss. She added that even after the holiday photo was taken, she underwent two more mouth procedures. 'I've been pretty unlucky,' she said, though she now feels 'past the storm' and looks forward to eating normally again.
McCarthy also mentioned that the health issues caused growths on her eyeballs, adding to her discomfort. 'People should actually feel a little sorry for me!' she joked.
Meanwhile, her husband Donnie Wahlberg's muscular physique in the photo is attributed to his Las Vegas residency with New Kids On The Block. McCarthy noted that they always shoot the holiday card after Donnie finishes touring, when he is in peak shape. She quipped that she has to capture that moment 'before he turns into that donut-loving cop on Boston Blue,' referring to his role in the series.
Despite their busy schedules, the couple plans to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas together at home in Chicago. 'It's just me and him, at home in Chicago, me cooking a bird, and enjoying each other,' McCarthy said.
