Henderson's Dad: 'Completely Smashed' Forearm After Freak Injury

Jordan Henderson's father has revealed that the England midfielder has 'completely smashed' his left forearm in a shocking freak injury following England's 3-2 World Cup victory over Mexico. The 36-year-old was stretchered off and required oxygen after tumbling over advertising hoardings during jubilant celebrations at the Azteca Stadium.

Injury Details and Surgery

Henderson, who did not feature in the match, was injured while joining teammates and fans in celebrating Jude Bellingham's brace and Harry Kane's penalty. He remained in Mexico City for surgery while the squad returned to their base in Kansas City. His father, Brian, confirmed that a surgeon experienced with treating NFL stars operated on the midfielder.

Speaking to Mail Online, Brian Henderson said: 'It's his left forearm - he's just completely smashed it. He's going to have a cast on and then it depends on what the experts say. He won't be leaving his team-mates. He'll be there until it's finished.'

Father's Reaction and Waiting Game

Brian, watching from the UK, initially thought Henderson had only scraped his wrist. He said: 'I had no idea it was that serious until they were interviewing Harry Kane and a trolley came past with Jordan on it. I could see him on there with oxygen and things. Straight away, I messaged his PA, who was over there, to try and find out what had happened. I was up all night waiting to hear the news. It's just a waiting game now.'

Henderson's Statement

On Tuesday, Henderson addressed the incident for the first time, posting on social media: 'A night to remember that's for sure! What an incredible performance against all the different challenges. So proud to be a part of this special team. Thanks for all the support, another big one Saturday.'

The injury was not captured by BBC Sport's broadcast and only emerged during post-match celebrations. Newcastle United defender Dan Burn was among the first to assist. Henderson will remain with the England squad throughout their World Cup campaign, with the Three Lions facing Norway on Saturday for a place in the semi-final.
