A 35-year-old Canadian mother of four has died after travelling to Turkey for cosmetic surgery, prompting a murder investigation by local police. Jessika Chagnon Gailloux underwent a tummy tuck and breast lift at a private hospital in Antalya on March 7, but her condition deteriorated rapidly following the procedure despite doctors' efforts to save her.
Police homicide detectives attended the hospital and examined the scene, while prosecutors launched a review. The Antalya Forensic Medicine Institution has performed an autopsy. A friend who travelled with Jessika on March 2 stated the pair had used drugs three days before arriving in Turkey, and authorities are investigating whether narcotic substances played a role in her death. No signs of trauma other than surgical marks were found on her body.
Jessika's best friend, Ericka, has set up a GoFundMe page to support the woman's four children, describing her as 'an extraordinary woman and a deeply loving mother.' The fundraiser aims to help the family during this difficult time.
The incident comes amid warnings from the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) about variable medical standards in Turkey, following seven deaths of British nationals after surgery last year. Health Secretary Wes Streeting has urged Brits to think carefully before booking cut-price cosmetic procedures abroad. Similar tragedies include the deaths of Kaydell Brown, Hayley Dowell, Janet Lynne Savage, and Anne Towlson, all British women who died after cosmetic or weight-loss surgery in Turkey in recent years.
