With demand for cosmetic surgery rocketing, horror stories of procedures gone wrong have emerged, leaving patients with life-threatening complications, permanent disfigurement, and long recoveries. Here are just some of the people for whom going under the knife nearly cost them their life.
Real Housewives Star Lauren Simon
Lauren Simon, star of Real Housewives of Cheshire, agreed to a breast reduction and nose operation in Turkey as part of a free collaboration with the practice. Within days, her left breast “was going black,” but the team insisted it was “fine.” The condition worsened, and Lauren needed a 24-hour-long procedure to bring her breast back to life.
Reflecting on the incident on Good Morning Britain, she said: “I couldn't move. I was in agony. But then when I came home, it took a year for this left breast to heal. It still had two big holes in it, gaping.”
Emergency Ear Reattachment
In the Chinese city of Jinan, surgeons performed an unorthodox procedure to reattach a woman’s ear after a workplace accident severed it. Doctors raced the woman, known only as Sun, into surgery. Because the blood vessels on her head were severed, they attached the ear to her right foot, where skin was thinner and blood vessels could provide circulation. Five months later, the ear was successfully reattached to its original position.
Mummy Makeover Nightmare
Mum-of-five Jade Tayler paid £5,300 for a “mummy makeover” in Turkey, hoping to boost her self-confidence. Instead, an infection spread across her right breast, leaving a hole the size of a 50p coin. She required a full mastectomy and now wears a fake breast. She said: “The whole thing was one big agonising nightmare and I’m still not happy with how my body looks. I wish I’d never done it. It felt so important at the time but I look at old photos and feel sad now.”
Brazilian Influencer Left Deformed
Brazilian influencer Juju do Pix underwent a face lift but was filled with dangerous mineral oils, causing her face to swell horrifically. She was left “deformed” and nearly unrecognisable. She has since undergone several procedures to remove the oils, but has not stayed away from surgery, returning for further enhancements including a boob job at a specialised clinic.
