Strictly Star Amy Dowden Shares Emotional Health Update
Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has shared an emotional health update with her supporters after missing Saturday night's live show. The 35-year-old Welsh dancer, who was diagnosed with cancer in May 2023 after finding a lump during her honeymoon, recently underwent another mastectomy procedure.
Recovery Underway with Family Support
Earlier this week, Amy posted a picture from her hospital bed, connected to a drip but surrounded by loved ones who had brought gifts. She wrote to her Instagram followers: "Thank you for all the messages and love. Sorry, I've not replied to anyone (only just looked at my phone)."
She confirmed that her surgery went well and she was focusing on rest and recovery with her husband and family providing care. The Strictly professional mentioned that friends had visited with "the goods" and nothing would stop them from watching The Traitors together, maintaining their tradition.
Flood of Support from Strictly Colleagues
By Saturday night, Amy provided another update, this time from home where she was resting on her sofa with a cup of tea. She posted: "Home, resting up, still got my drain in but rrrrrready for the best entertainment and medicine there is for me..... @bbcstrictly good luck everyone. Cheering you all on from home! Lots of luck and love xxxxx."
Claudia Winkleman was among the first to respond, filling Amy's comments with red heart emojis. Fellow professional Joanne Clifton also sent love hearts, while Karen Carney wrote: "Sending so much love."
Fans joined in the support, with one commenting: "The strongest person!! I hope you have a speedy recovery, gorgeous girl! sending so much love." Another wrote: "Have a lovely and restful evening," while others sent "healing hugs" and well-wishes for her recovery journey.
Amy continues to document her health journey publicly since her cancer diagnosis in 2023, inspiring many with her positive attitude and resilience throughout her treatment.
