BBC Radio 2 presenter Trevor Nelson is reportedly hoping to return to work after taking a break from broadcasting due to health concerns. The 62-year-old DJ stepped away from his radio commitments after doctors advised further medical tests following a routine check-up.
Nelson's Announcement and Health Concerns
Nelson shared the news with fans on Instagram last week, explaining why he had been absent from his regular afternoon Radio 2 programme. He wrote: "I wanted to let my followers, radio listeners and all my Soul Nation party-people know that I'm going to be taking a little break from my work commitments." He added: "After a routine check-up, I was advised to have some follow-up tests. As a result, I will be taking some further time off."
Nelson emphasized his focus on recovery, stating he was concentrating on "getting better, being back to 100% me and getting back behind the mic and the decks."
Friends and Colleagues Rally Support
According to a source close to Nelson, he is "doing the right thing by stepping back to make sure this health issue is properly sorted out." The source added that Nelson remains hopeful of returning later this year and is already looking ahead to future commitments, including his annual Christmas performances at London's Royal Albert Hall.
Colleagues have rallied around Nelson. Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay sent his support on air, describing Nelson as a much-loved broadcaster and wishing him a speedy recovery. Richie Anderson, who has covered Nelson's show, shared a heartfelt message: "Sending all the love in the world to our Trevor, we've got your back, buddy."
Cover Presenters and BBC Support
The BBC confirmed that fellow presenters Clara Amfo and DJ Spoony will cover Nelson's Radio 2 show during his absence. Lorna Clarke, the BBC's Director of Music, said everyone at Radio 2 and BBC Radio 1Xtra wishes Nelson well and looks forward to welcoming him back whenever he is ready.
