Two Supermarket Dinner Items Recalled Over Health Risk

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued urgent recall alerts for two supermarket dinner products sold at Tesco and Sainsbury's, warning consumers about undeclared allergens that pose a health risk. The recalls affect Capsicana Easy Going Mild Salsa and Minton and Donello Organic White Orzo, both of which contain ingredients not listed on their labels.

Capsicana Salsa Recall

Capsicana is recalling its Easy Going Mild Salsa after it was discovered that the product contains barley (gluten) and mustard, which are not declared on the label. The affected product is a 285g pack with batch code 6091 and a best-before date of May 2027. The salsa is stocked across various supermarkets, including Tesco and Sainsbury's.

According to the FSA, “This product contains barley (gluten) and mustard, making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to mustard and/or allergy or intolerance to barley or gluten, or with coeliac disease.”

Capsicana has initiated a recall from customers and has contacted relevant allergy support organisations to inform their members. The company has also issued point-of-sale notices explaining the recall and advising customers on next steps. Consumers who have purchased the salsa and have allergies to mustard, barley, or gluten, or who have coeliac disease, are urged not to eat it. They can return the product to the store of purchase for a full refund, with no receipt required. For further information, customers can contact Capsicana’s consumer care team at 0800 0195 617 or email consumer.services@abworldfoods.com.

Orzo Recall

Separately, Dundeis UK Ltd is recalling Minton and Donello Organic White Orzo because it contains wheat (gluten), which is not mentioned on the label or ingredients list. The affected product is a 500g pack with batch code 78850 and best-before dates of January 31, 2027, May 2, 2027, and May 24, 2027.

The FSA stated: “This product contains wheat, making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten or with coeliac disease.” Dundeis UK Ltd is recalling the product and has alerted allergy support organisations. Point-of-sale notices have been issued to customers, advising those with wheat or gluten allergies or coeliac disease not to consume the orzo and to return it to the store for a full refund.

About Allergy Alerts

The FSA explained that sometimes food products are withdrawn or recalled due to missing or incorrect allergy labelling. When a food allergy risk is identified, the FSA issues an Allergy Alert to inform consumers and ensure their safety.
