Supermarkets Issue Urgent Recalls Over Listeria and Undeclared Allergens
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has announced a series of product recalls affecting major UK supermarkets, including Tesco, Lidl, M&S, Co-op, and Ocado. The recalls are due to the potential presence of listeria monocytogenes in ham and cheese products, as well as undeclared allergens in salsa and pasta.
Shoppers are urged to check their kitchens for these items and return them to the store for a full refund. The FSA issues recalls when products pose a health risk, such as containing undeclared allergens or harmful bacteria.
Tesco and Lidl Recall Ham Over Listeria Risk
Tesco and Lidl have pulled several ham products from their shelves after the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) identified a potential listeria monocytogenes contamination. The affected items include products from the Tesco Finest and Lidl Deluxe ranges, as well as the Brady Family brand.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause flu-like symptoms, including high temperature, muscle aches, chills, nausea, and diarrhoea. In rare cases, it can lead to severe complications such as meningitis. Vulnerable groups include people over 65, pregnant women, newborns, and those with weakened immune systems.
The recalled products are:
- Brady Family Wood Smoked Real Irish Ham 6 Slices, 80g, batch code 235417
- Brady Family Hand Crumbed Real Irish Ham 6 Slices, 80g, batch codes 235880 and 235765
- Lidl Deluxe Triple Oak Smoked Carved Irish Ham 5 slices, 130g, batch code 235461
- Lidl Deluxe Honey Roast Carved Irish Ham 5 slices, 130g, batch code 235473
- Tesco Finest Crumbed Shaved Ham 16 slices, 120g, batch code 235412
All affected products have a use-by date of July 16. Customers are advised not to eat them and to return them to the store for a full refund.
M&S Recalls Truffle Gouda Cheese
Marks & Spencer is recalling its M&S Food Truffle Gouda due to the presence of listeria monocytogenes. The product, with code 29424887 and pack size 150g, has a use-by date of October 9, 2026.
Consumers are warned not to eat the cheese and to return it to any M&S store for a full refund. The same symptoms and risks apply as with the ham products.
Co-op Recalls Salsa Over Undeclared Allergens
Capsicana is recalling its Easy Going Mild Salsa, sold in Co-op stores, because the product contains barley (gluten) and mustard, which are not listed on the label. This poses a risk to anyone with an allergy to mustard, barley, or gluten, or those with coeliac disease.
The affected product details are:
- Capsicana Easy Going Mild Salsa, 285g, batch code 6091, best before May 2027
Customers with relevant allergies should not consume the salsa and can return it to the store for a refund without a receipt. For more information, contact Capsicana's consumer care team at 0800 0195 617 or email consumer.services@abworldfoods.com.
Tesco, Ocado, Amazon, and Planet Organic Recall Pasta
Dundeis UK Ltd is recalling Minton & Donello Organic White Orzo because it contains wheat (gluten), which is not declared on the label. The product is sold at Tesco, Ocado, Amazon, and Planet Organic in England and Wales only.
The recall affects the 500g pack size with batch code 78850 and best before dates of January 31, 2027, May 2, 2027, and May 24, 2027. Anyone with an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, or with coeliac disease, should not eat the product and should return it to the store for a full refund.
