Scabies outbreak at Welsh hospital halts ward visits

Visits to a ward at a Welsh hospital have been suspended following a scabies outbreak. Hywel Dda Health Board has introduced the restriction at the Bryngolau ward of Prince Philip Hospital.

Restrictions in place from Friday

The health board said the measures took effect from Friday, October 16, and that the health, safety and wellbeing of patients, visitors and staff is its priority. It added that national guidance is being followed and additional steps have been taken to reduce the risk of infection spreading.

Low public risk, discharged patients contacted

The situation is being reviewed regularly, and the risk to the wider public remains low, according to the health board. Patients recently discharged from the ward will be contacted directly.

Further advice on scabies has been published on the health board's website.
