Neurologist warns: 3 things he never does to avoid devastation

A neurologist has issued a stark warning about three activities he avoids at all costs, based on his experience treating severe injuries. Dr Baibing Chen, known online as Dr Bing, shared his insights in a TikTok video, emphasizing that he has witnessed the devastating outcomes firsthand.

Never use hands to unjam a lawnmower

Dr Chen's first piece of advice is to never use your hands to unjam a stuck lawnmower. He explained that even if the mower is turned off or unplugged, the blades can retain tension. When an obstruction is removed, the blades can snap free and spin rapidly. “Your reflex is faster than your judgement,” he said, noting that people instinctively reach in, leading to instant injury. “I've seen many fingers cut off and hands destroyed that way.”

Never use water on a grease fire

The second warning is against using water to extinguish a grease fire. When water is added to burning oil or fat, it vaporizes into steam, violently spreading the flames. “A small flame can become a fireball in seconds,” Dr Chen cautioned. Instead, he advises turning off the heat and smothering the fire with a lid to remove oxygen.

Never use metal bristle brushes on grills

Finally, Dr Chen warns against using metal bristle brushes to clean grills. Small wires can break off, stick to the grill surface, and end up on food. Swallowing these wires can lead to them lodging in the throat or intestines, creating a surgical emergency. “Be smart out there, guys,” he concluded.
