Myleene Klass has revealed she experienced a 'terrifying' breast cancer scare after finding two lumps in her breast. The TV presenter, 48, shared her story on Instagram, urging fans to check themselves regularly.
Discovery at Wimbledon
Klass found the first lump by chance while watching Wimbledon in June. She posted a picture of her torso with black markers indicating the lumps, writing: 'Girls. A massive reminder to check yourselves.'
'I accidentally felt a lump when I was at Wimbledon watching the tennis. I casually folded my arms and there it was. Then a second one. The subsequent days went both quickly and agonisingly slowly.'
All Clear After Tests
Klass assured fans she had been given the all clear after tests. '3 cysts and 3 lymph nodes later, I'm ok,' she wrote. 'BUT the days of waiting meant I reorganised my life into a new set of priorities and 'what ifs' only to thankfully get the all clear and then experience the weird 'reordering' of going back to 'normal'.'
She added: 'I have close friends going through similar experiences atm and it's sobering, humbling and terrifying. It's the having kids that anyone who experiences anything near this will know to be the first and final concern.'
Emotional Ultrasound
Having had four miscarriages in the past, Klass admitted that getting her breasts checked with an ultrasound was tough. She explained she hadn't 'seen an ultrasound since my multiple MCs' and that having to do so again was 'pretty sobering'.
'All this to say,' she continued, 'As a fierce advocate for women's healthy and not hiding what's uncomfortable, right now, check yourself and go get a second opinion.'
She thanked @the_mutha_ship for moving 'mountains lightning fast' to get her seen, and urged fans: 'To those who don't have a Sec, look at this as your prompt form me. Check yourselves. x.'
Friend Lauren Laverne's Diagnosis
Klass's news came shortly after her best friend and fellow presenter Lauren Laverne revealed she had been diagnosed with smouldering myeloma, a blood and bone marrow disorder that can develop into cancer. Laverne, 48, wrote on Instagram: 'I've been diagnosed with something called smouldering myeloma (yes that is a weird name and no I'd never heard of it either). It's an asymptomatic blood and bone marrow disorder that in some people can develop into blood cancer.'
Smouldering myeloma involves abnormal cells in bone marrow and abnormal protein in blood or urine, but typically has no symptoms and requires no treatment, only regular monitoring. Myeloma is an incurable blood cancer, with around 6,200 people diagnosed in the UK each year. It develops in plasma cells, spreads through bone marrow, and can cause fatigue, kidney damage, and bone disease.
Following her diagnosis, Laverne said she had always been anxious about developing cancer, especially after her mother died from terminal cancer in 2022. She said: 'It was something I'd always been anxious about. Especially if you have family members who've been through it. You have a sort of watchfulness about your own health, which is obviously why I got tested for everything and why it was picked up, thank God, so early on.'
