Kate Garraway Reveals She 'Couldn't Get Up' Due to Extreme Vitamin D Deficiency
Kate Garraway 'Couldn't Get Up' from Extreme Vitamin D Deficiency

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has revealed she once “couldn’t get up” due to an “extreme” Vitamin D deficiency. The ITV star shared her experience on the morning programme while discussing regular vitamin and supplement intakes alongside co-host Ranvir Singh and Dr Amir Khan.

Kate Garraway's Health Struggle on Good Morning Britain

Kate explained that the deficiency occurred a few years ago when she was working on Daybreak as entertainment editor. “I had an extreme Vitamin D deficiency a few years back when we were on Daybreak. I was entertainment editor and up in the mornings and I probably hadn’t seen daylight in a long time,” she said. “And I literally just stopped in my tracks and suddenly couldn't get up from my chair. Vitamin D was blamed but my mum always told me you shouldn’t take too much vitamin D.”

Dr Amir Khan's Advice on Vitamin D Dosage

After Kate revealed she was unsure about the correct dosage, Dr Amir stressed the importance of taking the right amount of Vitamin D. According to the NHS, Vitamin D helps regulate calcium and phosphate levels in the body, which are essential for healthy bones, teeth, and muscles. A lack of Vitamin D can cause rickets in children and bone pain in adults. The government advises everyone to consider taking a daily Vitamin D supplement during autumn and winter, a recommendation Dr Amir echoed on the programme.

Kate's Previous Health Admissions

This is not the first time Kate has been open about health issues on Good Morning Britain. In April, she revealed she was in pain while presenting due to an eye infection. While opening the show with Ranvir, Kate addressed wearing glasses, joking, “I can't see a thing this morning, Ranvir.” Ranvir replied, “You're in pain, though, aren't you, a little bit?” Kate admitted, “I've got an eye infection, and you know, I wear contacts, and I can't wear my contacts, so I had to buy a pair of glasses, because my other glasses were broken, and I can't really see a thing.” Ranvir offered support, saying, “We'll crack on, we'll get through it, won't we? We're here for four hours.” Kate quipped, “Do you think I'll catch up by the end? Whatever you say, I'll go along with.”
